Attractions of Chikmagalur

Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka, India. It is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range. With a height of 1930 m (6317 ft.), it is the hightest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. Mullayanagiri is located in the Chikkamagalur district of Karanataka.

Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple
Horanadu the holy city of Chickmagalu is famous for the Annapoorneshwari Temple. Dedicated to Goddess Annapurneshwari, (Goddess of Food and Grains) this temple was built in 1973. It is believed that one who visits the temple and takes the blessing of the Deity one shall never go hungry in their life.This is a form of Prasada (blessing) from the deity.Horanadu lies amidst the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats, in the Malnad area. The nature’s bounty and green spread reflects on the Goddess’s resplendent glory. The main idol made of gold and the serenity in the face can bring peace and calm to ones mind.

Belur- Halebid
The temples of Belur & Halebid are magnificently done up with intricate carvings and fine architecture. One must not miss out on the exquisite Hoyasala architecture which is worth a notice in all the temples. Once at the centre of a great empire ruled by Hoysalas in the 12th century, Belur and Halebid are heritage towns and are home to several exquisite temples which reveal the artistry of Indian sculptors and the mastery of the temple builders of yore. etween the 12th and 13th century, Belur and Halebid formed part of the vibrant Hoysala Empire. For those who want to get their history facts all correct, the Hoysalas were from the hill tribes of the Western Ghats and for several years, served as feudatories of the Chalukyas.

Magundi River Rafting
Situated between Balehonnur and Kalasa is Magundi. Here river Bhadra flows slowly with intermittent rapids creating opportunities for river rafting, swimming and other Water Sports.

Kalhatthi Falls
It is 10 kms away from Kemmannugundi towards Tarikere. Here the water Cascades down 403 ft. The place has legendary association with sage Agasthya. A temple dedicated to god Veerabhadra by the side of the falls attracts devotees from nearby places. There is accommodation for over night stay. Annual fair takes place during month of arch/April. People also trek to the top of falls from Santaveri

It is a famous pilgrim centre situated on the banks of the river Tunga.It is about 100 kms. from Chikmagalur. The Sri Sharada Peetha here is supposed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya the proponent of Advaita Philosophy. Vidyashankara Temple built here is a combination of Chola, Dravida, Nagara, and Chalukya styles and stands on a plat form of 3ft. Sri Sharadamba Temple is another major temple worth visiting. Accommodation for overnight stay and free food is offered to the devotees though out the year by Peetha. The sacred fishes in the river are an attraction to both young and old.
